New Years Eve Masquerade
[It's been a hectic year, even for the Emerald Witch. Many things have happened and that included having to take an apprentice under her wing. Of course, even with all the shenanigans she found herself getting into, she at least had the luxury of retiring to her home in Blackgale and ignoring the magical social scene. She didn't like mingling with her fellow magic users, save a few, after all.
Unfortunately, she couldn't avoid ALL the invitations, especially something as big as a witches and wizards masquerade, being held at a magically hidden castle. Who said witches and wizards don't like to party hard on New Years Eve? The Magician's Guild sent her an invite, personally requesting her presence and oddly enough, her teacher sent her note encouraging her to do so. Maybe they just want a titled witch around? Who knows. In any case, at least she could take her student to help her get used to the magical side of society.
What Amelia doesn't know that other invites have been sent out randomly to other individuals...
Inside the castle, the rooms are beautifully lit and the ballroom is enchanted as if the guests are walking among a sea of stars. The room is full of witches and wizards and apprentices, all dressed formally for the occasion, dancing, laughing, and wearing masks of various designs. This is a magic castle of course, so there are other mysterious things to look out for...
Amelia keeps her style simple and practical: a white ballgown and an intricate silver mask will do for her.
One must wonder if this New Years Eve would pass peacefully or not... you never know with the magic users of this world.]

[It's sort of a flip around from what she was saying a minute or two ago. But... when your partner-slash-significant-other meets strange girls in the park...]
[Kara's the jealous type, needless to say.]

What I AM worried about are the... others. [Gestures to the other witches and wizards around them]

[She folds her arms around herself.]
Yeah. I kind of noticed. Why am I even here, if no one wants me here?

If there's anything that can be called dangerous, it's people with magic who are bored. You're interesting because no one knows who you are.
As for why you're here, it's most likely because of my teacher.

[She looks more unnerved than angry, though.]
Your what now?
no subject
As I said, it was my teacher who invited you. I'm the only one who knows about you and Jacob and by extension he knows as well.
no subject
... How much does he know, exactly?
no subject
Hm. How much is a good question. More than I do I'm guessing.

In any case, I don't believe I caught your name? Call me Amelia.

Kara. It's Kara.

[There is a short pause.]
And for the record, I'm not interested in taken men.
no subject
What's that supposed to mean?
[Like she wasn't just ranting about it a minute ago.]

Basically, I barely know Jacob to feel the least bit attracted to him and since he has you, I have no underlying intentions whatsoever.
no subject
[... she may or may not have just wanted to make this other woman say it directly.]
no subject
Besides. [She pauses for a short while and looks to the side a bit. The look in her eyes is distant]
I've been taken long ago.
no subject
That's not an ominous statement at all.
