[It's a beautiful autumn evening. The sun is dipping below the horizon, the sky is mixed with hues of violet, reds, and blues. The leaves are browning and the air is crisper and chillier, a great contrast with the great heatwave of summer.
There's no one out during the after hours in this part of the city. The park while quiet and full of quaint charms has been avoided recently after seven unexplained disappearances. Certain officials have advised the locals to stay inside.
Oh, wait.]
Dancing in the moonlight,
Everybody's feeling warm and bright!
[Lien is walking past the warning signs and doing a little twirl all by herself. For someone who works on cold cases that usually involve murder in the first place, she sure is way too optimistic. She stops singing and calls to her companion that is not Jonah...]
Isn't the fresh air great? Man, I feel so energized!!

Anyways... [She tugs at his sleeve to lead his hand to the base of the statue.]
This is where I initially touched. Feel anything?
[It feels like cool stone, but... there seems to be something, as if it's stirring.]

But that's one thing! We now know that it's possible for you to feel other magic. Probably has to be strong though.
[She checks her phone for the time. It's getting late and the information she was given that people were gone in the dead of night.]

[ He makes a face, but it softens quickly. She's right, that is one thing he didn't know before. It's something. ]
Now what?
no subject
Next, we're almost at the hour where the people began to disappear.
[She kneels down, touching the ground. Lien has already read the past footsteps of those who were missing. But those would barely help. Knowing that they were here wasn't as important as to what they were here for and why they ended up disappear in the first place. She reaches to touch the statue again.
It feels... different compared to the first time. Did it react to Lindsey?]
Ugh, this statue is creeping me out. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say there is something living in the statue. And the magic that we both feel is what's keeping it in.
no subject
[ Because seriously Lien, what did you drag him into ]
no subject
[Looking up at the sky. The moon is full. The last time she scouted the area, there was less moonlight and she didn't find anything. But as the cycle continued... Ah. Moonlight.]
We just need to stick around a little while longer and check out if anything actually happens.
no subject
[ He really has no choice, and more importantly... he'd hate for something bad to happen to her. ]
no subject
In fact, she has it in good mind to call Jonah so he could just pick them up to avoid trouble. Her hand reaches for her cellphone, but the moon is positioned in a way where it's silvery light casts a shadow on the statue, catching her attention. The area around the statue seems to resonate even more strongly with mysterious energy, that the both of them should be able to feel, sensitivity to magic and all.]
Whoa. You totally should have felt THAT.
no subject
I felt it. I felt it and I don't like it. We should go.
no subject
Stop.
[There's a voice. Quiet, but terrible, soft, but penetrating. Lien turns and her eyes widen. The shadow that was cast by the moon? It's forming into some indescribable shape and the statue's eyes are glowing white.
What's worse, the shadow is moving towards them.]
Dammit! Lindsey, you stay where you are, I'm gonna try breaking the statue with my powers. Don't worry, I'll get this...!!
[That and Lien knows what this creature is. And if she's learned anything basic about the magic world, demons, are attracted to magic despite how it can be used against them. They also like souls to increase their already long lives.
Lien knows she has at least some of those things and the shadow seems distracted by her and even sizing her up.
This can't be good.]
no subject
Lien, don't do anything stupid! We should go!
no subject
It turns its attention back on Lien and the shadow shoots towards her. The shadow lifts from the ground, a corporeal form that wraps around her leg. There's a yelp and Lien falls on her backwards her concentration broken. Before she can make another move, the demon binds her, like a shadowy rope.
The demon feels it, the faint magic. There's something about this girl; she wasn't just sensitive to its presence, but within her there's a fragment and it's just enough...]
PERFECT.
[Lien yells to Lindsey. She's panicking and while she doesn't know what's going to happen next, she at least has an idea]
LINDSEY!! Whatever happens don't listen--...!!
[The shadow disappears and Lien feels herself being shut down or rather, a THING attaching itself to her within.
And suddenly silence.]
no subject
[ if the presence in the statue wasn't terrifying enough, the sounds of the struggle are even more so. He doesn't know what's happening, he doesn't know how to help. He's already beginning to glow, his power stirring slightly, reacting to his desperate need to protect his friend, as she fights the... whatever it is.
When she goes silent, he goes blindingly bright. ] Let her go! If you hurt her I swear to God--
no subject
[It's Lien's voice that replies and yet not hers either. The voice is calm and retaining the quiet and terrifying quality that came from the shadow. Lien's body sits up and her eyes are empty. The demon is mostly in control and holds out a palm, studying it in bemusement. Of course, it can't ignore Lindsey forever (that light is making it flinch) so it answers with Lien's voice (softly, terribly).]
We're not hurt. Boy, calm yourself. Why would I hurt such an interesting body like this? Don't try anything without thinking first. Listen if you will.
no subject
What do you want? [ his tone is even, cold. ]
no subject
[It actually sits there for a few seconds taking in its surroundings. It's been so long since it could actually possess a body, taking advantage of the girl's sensitivity. How wonderful the world felt in a body! To see from human eyes! From the statue it could only seethe and watch the world pass by from this one spot. But years have passed and the moon gave it power to lure in unsuspecting victims. They all could hear it when the moon was full; they had wishes and it would grant them to an extent and then it would trap them, their souls and bodies trapped in the same statue.
The demon is considering the possibilities. Yes, the possibilities... It stands up in Lien's body and takes a few steps towards Lindsey.]
You can't see me, can you boy? I'm here, but you can only hear my voice?
no subject
When it stands up and steps closer, he shrinks back half a pace before gathering himself and rising to his full height, glaring at where he knew Lien's head would be.. He's knight, God dammit. He needed to act like one. ]
Don't tease me. Don't-- don't toy with me. What. Do. You. Want.
no subject
Oh, it's not what I want. I'm very pleased right now actually. I've been terribly bored for so long. Don't you know what it's like? Sitting in one place, doing nothing year, after year... And now I can walk around, free as can be.
[It holds up Lien's hand again and even hums.]
This girl is so interesting. She's doesn't have magic, but there's something magical... Ah, but never mind that.
If anything though, I should be asking you: What do you want? Actually, no. I don't even have to ask do I?
[And it walks closer and now Lindsey should hear a voice whispering into his ear, almost seductively in the voice that was and wasn't Lien's.]
I can give you your sight back.
no subject
I can give you your sight back.
His voice is suddenly small- he's thirteen again, learning that he'll never see again, that his world will be dark forever. ] ... What?
no subject
You want to see again don't you? Curing blindness is a mere trifle for someone like me.
[It's voice grows soft again, almost soothing even. As if it really did sympathize and pity Lindsey.]
It must be awful. Everything in darkness and you can only hear and feel. But what good is the warmth of the sun if it can't light the way. What good is this moonlight if you can't even take pleasure in it?
I'll give it to you. I'll give you light.
no subject
There's a "yes" on his lips, but he stops short. Maybe it's his common sense kicking back in, or maybe it's that part of his past life that longed for Guinevere and lost everything because of it. ]
... In exchange for what?
